Charles “Chuck” Barber, 79, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully December 6, 2024, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. Chuck was born in Rockford, IL on March 26, 1945, to his parents Jack and Marian (Runkle) Barber. He graduated from West High School in 1964.
Chuck married Jane Chamberlain on May 18, 1974, in Rockford, IL. He attended University of Wisconsin Eau Clair for 1 year and obtained his Associated Degree from Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL. He served in the United States Army Reserve for 6 years. Chuck had worked at Nabisco, was a Realtor, a landlord for 50 years, and retired from Proctor and Gamble after 25 years in 2007.
Chuck enjoyed his down time by being outdoors. He loved boating, fishing, and finding projects to do outside. He also loved getting together with friends and family and playing cards and games. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Chuck and Jane enjoyed traveling and making new memories.
Chuck’s love for his country ran deep, and his patriotism was evident in everything he did. Chuck had a knack for making friends and was admired and loved by so many. Throughout his life, Chuck built deep and lasting relationships, surrounding himself with people who uplifted him and shared in his joys.
Chuck leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love, and those who knew him are grateful to have shared in the journey of his remarkable life.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Barber; children, Amy (Darin) Luhman and Scott (Sarah) Barber; grandchildren, Seth Harris, Domenick and Donovan Barber, and Cydney and Sadie Luhman. Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Marian Barber.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to an organization selected by the family at a later date.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Honquest Family Funeral Home - Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd. Loves Park, IL 61111, at 2:00 P.M., with a visitation starting at 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Cremation rites will be accorded.
