Catherine M. Schocker

Catherine M. Schocker, 78, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, and went to be with the Lord. Born in Rockford, IL on June 6, 1946, to her parents, Walter and Helen (Olson) Peterson. Cathy was a 1964 graduate from East High School in Rockford, IL.

Cathy was a lifelong dedicated employee at Medical Pain Management in Rockford. She enjoyed her job and the people she got to work with. Cathy had a unique gift—the ability to feel the pain and joy of others with an intensity that few can comprehend. Her heart was always open to those in need, and her natural empathy led her to help countless individuals throughout her life. While this deep emotional connection was both a blessing and a burden, Cathy’s warmth and compassion were a comfort to so many who encountered her.

Known for her genuine love and care for others, Cathy found great joy in making the lives of those around her better. Whether through small acts of kindness or offering a listening ear, she was a constant source of light for family, friends, and even strangers. Though her empathetic nature often meant bearing the pain of others, Cathy found peace in sharing in the happiness and triumphs of those she loved. Her heart was big, her spirit warm, and her impact immeasurable.

Cathy is survived by her longtime life partner, Joe Spiezer; nephew, Brian Peterson; great-nephews, Nathan and Nicholas Peterson; many cherished friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Helen Peterson; brothers, James and Jerry Peterson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 920 3rd Ave., Rockford, IL 61104, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in honor of Cathy.
