Carol A. (Buchmann) Smith

Carol Ann (Buchmann) Smith, 80, of Rockford passed away July 12, 2024. She was born in Freeport, IL on December 15, 1943, the daughter of Carl G. and Vita M. (Nania) Buchmann. She graduated from Muldoon High School Rockford in 1961. Carol married Eddie Smith in Rockford in 1980, bringing together a blended family from their first marriages. Carol and Eddie were married 35 years until his passing in 2015.

Carol’s early career began with jobs at the Rockford Register Star and Copley Hospital in Aurora before coming back to Rockford to raise her family and work in a variety of office roles. In 2010, she was honored for 20 years of service at the A-1 Wire Company as a sales associate at her retirement celebration. She then went on to co-manage her husband’s trucking business until his passing. 

Carol loved cooking, crafting, jewelry making, all things purple, Elvis, and her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Jolie. More than anything, she loved her family and will be dearly missed.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Lori (Randy) Craig; grandchildren, Hannah and Abby Craig; great-granddaughter, Charlotte; son, David (Marcie) Finley; grandchildren, Joseph Liebgott (Samantha Gray) and Megan (Caleb) Brouer; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Payton and Karson; daughter, Belinda Clark; son, Fredrick (Caraycha) Clark; daughters, Courtney Morris and Beatrice (BB) Smith; grandchildren, Charles and Marshion Owens; sister, Judy Buchmann–Badowski; as well as 9 additional grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Eddie; parents, a sister, Barbara and brother, Jim.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
