We say goodbye to Carlito “Boyo” Esteves Barrera, 21, of Rockford, IL, who left us far too soon on December 9, 2025. Boyo was born on April 26, 2004, the fifth son of Allan Esteves and Jessica Barrera. He was raised and educated in Rockford and graduated from Guilford High School in 2022.
Boyo was a devoted video game enthusiast who could often be found playing Call of Duty, Mario Kart (where he proudly earned his reputation as a “Drift God”), and Super Smash Bros. He had a deep love for music and enjoyed attending raves, where he embraced the energy and joy of the moment. Always up for a challenge, Boyo especially loved food challenges, with a particular passion for hot and spicy foods. He also found peace and happiness in nature, enjoying hikes and exploring new places with his family. Adventurous at heart, Boyo lived with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a fearless spirit.
Boyo is survived by his mother, Jessica Barrera; his brothers, Antonio, Jessie, Angel, and Emilio. He was preceded in death by his father, Allan Esteves. Carlito will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
