Carl "George" Hall Obituary

Carl Hall, known as “George” to his family and close friends, aged 87, of Loves Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Amberwood Care Center. George was born on December 5, 1938, in Rockford, Illinois, to William Lloyd and Hilda Hall. He spent the majority of his nearly nine decades in his hometown, except for ten years living in northern Wisconsin with his family and five years in Canada with his companion Marietta. George proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine during peacetime, stationed in Hawaii. A cement contractor by trade, George was known for his technical skills and, on any family car outing, enjoyed pointing out structure foundations that he had worked on.

George was a man of simple pleasures. He was a lifelong fisherman along the banks of local rivers. He enjoyed the excitement of playing the slot machines at local casinos. Over the years, he was a doting caretaker of his furry companions: Sissy the petite Chihuahua, Timmy II the furry white cat, and his energetic sidekick Bubba.

George is survived by his four daughters: Cathleen (Terry) Tappon, Laura (Michael) Pack, Janice (Steve) Burdick, and Amy (Brian Miller) Amend. He leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Stephanie, Kip, and Serena Samardzich, Fantasy and Kelsey Pack, Amanda Hall, Michael Burdick, Matthew and Victoria Hall, Andrew Amend, Dayton Messerschmidt, Samuel Cabrera, Linnea Hall, Harrison Miller, John Hall, and 21 great-grandchildren.

George was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Janice, in 2005; his sons, Steven in 2008, and Chris in 2011; his grandson, Daniel; recently his significant other, Becky; and seven siblings, William, Burleigh, Babe, Lefty, Ruth, an infant sister, and Virginia.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to grandson, Matt and his wife, Kala, for their extraordinary kindness in opening their home to Grandpa during his final months. Their unwavering support brought him great comfort in his final days.  Thank you to family and friends who visited daily in the care center, providing companionship and reassurance to Dad. Your visits were a reminder to him that he was loved and never truly alone.

Thank you to the staff at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee for their comprehensive care and respect shown to Dad over the last year.  Additionally, we are grateful for the staff of Northern Illinois Hospice and Amberwood Care Center who cared for Dad in his final weeks, in particular CNA Kya, who daily provided a bright smile and compassionate care.

A celebration of George’s life will be held later this summer.
