Calvin Piper Calvin D. Piper, 58 Rockford- Calvin D. Piper, 58, of Tampa passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008, at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Born Sept. 24, 1949, in Newark Township, WI, son of Virden and Anna (Dukes) Piper. He grew up in Rockford, attending Auburn High School. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Intrepid from 1969 to 1973. After his honorable discharge he began working for Illinois Bell in both Rockford and Kankakee, IL. He moved to Houston, TX in the late 70’s working as a cable splicer for Southwestern Bell. He settled in Rosebud, TX in the late 90’s to be close to his youngest children. Calvin had a great love of motorcycles, fishing, boating, and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his ability to overcome any obstacle with a positive attitude and carefree smile. Calvin is survived by his children, Neil Piper of Rockford, IL; Jennifer Piper (Brady Ferrall) of Tampa, FL; Matthew Piper of Austin, TX; and Brianne Piper of Rosebud, TX; mother, Anna (Dukes) Piper of Amboy, IL; brothers and sister, Kendall Piper of Arizona; Randall (Linda) Piper of Arizona; Tena Sadewater of Roscoe, IL; and Larry (Eileen) Piper of Amboy, IL. He is predeceased by his father, Virden and his brother, Terry. Memorial service at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main St., with visitation from 2 p.m. to time of service. Inurnment in Roscoe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial in his name for veterans without families at the James A. Haley Veterans' Nursing Home.
