Calvin (Cal) Eugene Clinkenbeard, 67, was born April 6, 1956, to Leo and Alberta (Robbins) Clinkenbeard in Rockford, IL. Cal passed away peacefully at his home in Belvidere, IL on January 11, 2024, with loved ones by his side.
Cal graduated from Hiawatha High School in Kirkland, IL. After school he joined the Air Force. On July 17, 1976, he married his high school sweetheart, Cecelia Lynn Montgomery. They had two children, daughter, Karen and son, Charles. Lynn was Cal’s best friend. She passed in May of 2013.
After leaving the Air Force, Cal worked in the machine tool trade for several years. When the opportunity arose he went to work driving for Cassens, hauling new cars. During that time he won awards for his precision driving. This man loved to tinker on hot rods. He could do that all day long and he owned a few in his time. You could always find him at a car show on the weekends with a trophy in his hands.
When Cal’s wife passed away almost 11 years ago, he and his friends Fred and Deb Wescott, who had lost their daughter to cancer at the same time, knew they had to do something. They had both used Heartland Hospice and they wanted to repay them in some way for all they had done. So they created an annual golf outing that brought in thousands of dollars. Until Covid. Calvin Clinkenbeard was a special kind of guy. If you needed a smile, he had many. If you needed someone to talk to, he was all ears. If you needed help, he would literally drive across the country to help you and make you laugh all the way.
Surviving Calvin are his children, Karen (Chris) Doyle and Charles Clinkenbeard; sisters, Denise (Gregg) Olson and Tammy (Jim) Maggio; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Cecelia Lynn (Montgomery) Clinkenbeard; parents, Leo and Alberta (Robbins) Clinkenbeard; brothers, Bradley Clinkenbeard and Brian Clinkenbeard; sister, Ramona Jean Clinkenbeard.
Saying Cal was a kind, gentle man is an understatement. He was also very funny. He didn’t want people to sit and be sad at a funeral. He wanted to be remembered with joy. On Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111 we are going to celebrate his life. We would like to share memories. Come and go as you please. We just ask that you bring your memories to share as well. We are looking forward to hearing them. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the family. They would like to divide them between Cal’s two favorite charities.
