Betty Nelson Obituary
Betty J. Nelson, 89, of Rockton, IL died peacefully Saturday, June 23, 2018 at her home. Betty was born on November 12, 1928, the daughter of Wilbert and Lucille (Gillette) Holldorf in Manyaska, MN. She grew up in Fenton, Iowa. After graduating from Fenton High School in 1946, Betty married Harlan Nelson and moved to Estherville, IA. In 1970 they settled in Spencer, IA where she worked at White Drug while raising her family. In 2007, she moved to Rockton, IL. Betty loved to read, do puzzles and play cards – although she tended to make up her own rules as she played. She was fond of birds and flowers and was surrounded by them through the end.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Carrie Norwood (Rockton, IL) and Michael Nelson and wife Julie (Alpharetta, GA); four grandchildren, Taylor, Adam, Kate and Anders; and granddog, Lucy. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Nelson; parents; and her six siblings, Skip, Jim, Jerry, Arlis, Mary and Polly.
Per her wishes, Betty will be cremated and there will be no visitation. Interment will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Beloit Regional Hospice, 655 Third St., Beloit, WI 53511.
