After a long struggle, Bert Eugene Thomas, III passed away in South Beloit, IL on December 31, 2024 at the age of 81. Bert was born on October 30, 1943 in Rockford, IL to Bert Thomas, Jr. and Mary Heavlin Thomas. He attended Northern Illinois University, where he met his life-long love, Kathryn Caputa. They were married on October 10, 1964, and never stopped holding hands. He was the co-owner of Parkside Warehouse, with his brother-in-law, Steve Tigner.
Bert was passionate about his family, cars and traveling (particularly when he was behind the wheel of the car). His favorite activity was sitting on the deck at his cottage in Wisconsin. He was a loving and generous father and grandfather who passed on an appreciation of hard work and sarcastic wit.
Bert is survived by his loving with Kathy; children, Bert (Carrie), Dawn (Jody), and Sean (Jennifer), and grandchildren, Jared, Ethan, Katelyn, Finn, Ella, Olivia, and Josephine.
The family would like to thank Beloit Dialysis Center, Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Qureshi at RGA and OSF Hospital for their compassionate care and support.
A private Memorial Mass will be held for the family. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for friends and family in the summer. In lieu of flowers, please considering sending a donation to Bert's favorite charity, The Salvation Army.
