Alex Maldonado, 34, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. Born on December 23, 1989, Alex lived a life filled with passion and joy. A proud graduate of Guilford High School in 2008, he was an active member of the school’s swim team and maintained a lifelong love for sports, especially football. Alex was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears, always ready to cheer on his teams.
He worked as a top sales specialist at Napleton’s, where his talent and dedication were widely recognized. His friendly demeanor and genuine ability to connect with others made him beloved by colleagues and customers alike. Alex had an infectious personality—he was outgoing, stubborn, funny, hardheaded, kind, and always there to lend a helping hand. All traits that were part of his unique charm and tenacity.
Alex is survived by his mother, JoAnn Oppenheimer Maldonado; his older sister, Olivia (Chad Covert); his girlfriend, Elizabeth Alberts; and his two beloved sons, Alexander Maldonado (10) (Rachael Walsh) and Andrew Maldonado (6), who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Ace; his best friends, Luis Pena and Peter Jones—known as the “Three Amigos”—and a large and devoted family of aunts, uncles, nephew, niece and cousins who will forever cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfonso Maldonado; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A formal service and celebration of life will be held at 12:30pm with a visitation from 11:00am until the service on Sunday, December 1, 2024 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111. Family and friends will gather to honor Alex’s memory, share stories, and remember the joy he brought to all of their lives.
