Walter C. Tallacksen, 77, of Rockford was called home to be with his wife on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Born October 14, 1940 in Rockford to Ralph and Mary (Springer) Tallacksen. A veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War. Married Virginia “Cookie” Cook August 25, 1972 in the Church by the Side of the Road, Rockton. Employed by Eklund Metal Treating, Inc. for 20 years, after which he was self employed as a flea market dealer. In the 1970s Walter enjoyed skating at Rock River Roller Palace, where he soon met his wife, Cookie. They loved to spend time together, especially going to garage sales, flea markets and traveling to Florida. Walter also enjoyed his favorite sport, baseball, and playing the guitar.
Survivors include children, Deborah Tallacksen, Kenny (Cindy) Roberts, Crystal (Brent) Gilligan, Kevin (Brittany) Tallacksen; grandchildren, Darlene (Zach) DeWitz, Jeremy Roberts, Haleigh “Munchkin” Gilligan, Hayden “Buck Shot” Gilligan, Bria Tallacksen, Logan Tallacksen; sister, Pat Jones, and brother, Ralph “Junior” Tallacksen. Predeceased by wife, Cookie; brothers, Harry, Howard, Harold, Frank; and sisters, Evelyn, and Ruthie.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial in Willwood Burial Park, Rockford. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family to be used in Walter's name at a later date.
