Ruby Schneider Mareneck

Beloved “Grandma Ruby” Schneider Mareneck died suddenly from complications of her illness on September 1, 2018 in Williams Bay, WI. Born October 18, 1930 in Bellwood, IL, Ruby had two sisters, Bess Heffernan and Katherine Placash, who predeceased her.  After graduating from Proviso East High School Ruby married Eugene Schneider in 1948 and they had two children, Mark and Donna. She became widowed in 1971 and married Robert H. Mareneck in 1977. Ruby lived in Lake Forest, IL and worked for the Highland Park School System for many years before the couple became volunteers with the International Executive Service Corps (IESC) and served in Central America. Bob was then named IESC Country Director for Jamaica with Ruby in charge of women’s volunteer activities. After successfully completing close to ten years of volunteer service, Ruby and Bob moved to Lewisburg, WV in 1994. They became active members of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church where Ruby continued her volunteer work including running the church’s thrift store “The Americana” for many years. Ruby and Bob spent summers in Williams Bay, WI to be close to her children and their families.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Mark Schneider and Donna Schneider Elliott; her grandchildren, Emily Vetter Trenn, Matthew Spence, Lacy Schneider Henry and Blake Schneider; her great-grandchildren, Magnus and Vanessa Trenn, Charlotte and George Henry, and Kaden and Kylee Schneider; and her beloved sister-in-law, Donna (Schneider) Kopecky. In addition, Ruby was stepmom to Bob’s five adult children, Ellen, Robert Jr., Michael, Peter and Susan; step-grandma to Alpha Delap, Edward Hourigan, and Zarina, Jacob, Ryven, Ghislaine and Maghnus Mareneck; and step-great-grandma to Declan Delap, Nicolas Delap and Eliza Martyn Hourigan. Ruby’s enormous energy, love and spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
