So sorry to hear the loss of your father, Rick and Kathy. He sounds like quite a remarkable man and what a blessing to those who he touched. God's Grace and Mercy to you all!

To say Richard was just my father-in-law would be like saying Michael Jordan was just a basketball player. Richard was my friend, confidant, trusted adviser, teacher, role model, and so much more. My life will always be better in so many ways because of him, What I learned from him, how he handled himself so gracefully, how he modeled the love he had for his family and Christ, how a quick, wonderfully placed quip could lighten the mood and open tough topics of discussion, that men reject passivity and lead courageously. I loved him very, very much and when life's crossroads and tough decisions come calling I know I will find myself asking "What would my Pop's say about this situation or how would he handle this?" I didn't always call him "Pop's" because it is a synonym for "Dad" or "Father and I did not want to somehow offend the man who raised me but it was a moniker he earned many, many times over. He was my second dad and my "Pop's". I cry writing this but also recognize my tears have a fair amount of selfishness to them because like so many others I did not want him to leave. Ever. That is the human condition I suppose, we want to avoid pain, especially the pain of losing someone so cherished, so admired, and so loved. That being said I have solace because the Holy Spirit within me says very, very, clearly that "This was his time Keith" and that gives me great peace and comfort knowing that is indeed the case. This was Richard's time. His journey is now complete, his progressing physical limitations gone. He is restored and in perfect peace with his Father above and I celebrate that knowing that it IS true! So I say with tremendous humility, I love you Pop's!! Thank you for enriching my life and giving me so many wonderful things to remember you by. You will be a resource I return to many, many times over and I love you and look forward to seeing you again and when I do, cue the German marching music! I am proud to be your son-in law and carry on what I have learned from you.
