Renee "Joyce" Dawson

Renee "Joyce" Dawson, 89, died peacefully in her home on Monday, July 8, 2019.  Born on August 20, 1929 in Joliet, IL to Harry and Irene Maddison.  She married William “Danny” Dawson on October 7, 1950 in Chicago, IL. 

The building of a home was her life’s work.  There she loved baking, cooking and keeping her lovely garden. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, and decorating for all the holidays. She was happiest with a baby in her arms. In the last few years she missed dancing with Dan, parties with friends and vacations with the Cliffs. Watching soap operas, the Chicago Bears, Nascar and coloring books kept her busy. She was fondly known to many as the “Cupcake Lady”.

Survived by sons, Gary (Jan) Dawson, Bob (Sandie) Dawson; daughter, Connie Dawson; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  Preceded by husband; parents; sister, Sally Maurer​ and brother, Harry “Sonny” Maddison.

The family wants to thank Heartland Hospice for taking such good care of her for the last 14 months. A special thanks to Tina Schmarje, her caregiver and dear friend. 

Memorial Service will be at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 20, 2019 with a Visitation from 2:00pm until the service in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park.  Private burial.
