Phyllis Esther Slicer Morris passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 18, 2019. She was born October 12, 1924 in Broadview, Illinois, to William H. Slicer and Alfhild Bie, one of nine children. Prior to her marriage to Kenneth A. Morris, Phyllis was a professional dancer, along with several of her sisters. They were known as the Sherwood Sisters. She hung up her dancing shoes to have eight children of her own. Phyllis loved nature, especially trees and birds and was known for her excellent whistling and bird calls. She loved music and singing, a love she passed down to her children. She liked to knit, draw and read her Wall Street Journal every day, following the business news until just a few years ago. Phyllis sometimes walked to her own drummer but she loved her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Alfhild, Sylvia, Lorraine, Alice, Leonell, brother William, infant daughter and daughter Marianne. She is survived by two younger sisters, Marigold and Holly, both of California, children Andrea (Bob) Leslie, Cecile Flowers, Elizabeth (Peter) Dietz, Christine (David) Clark, Barbara (Alex Krinickas) and David, eight grandchildren (Kenny, Rachel, Kyle, John, Kevin, Alexandra, Nathan and Emerson), one great-grandchild Kayla and several nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the Atrium for their loving care of our mother and sister.
Service and burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 26th in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations to NAMI Northern Illinois, P.O. Box 6971, Rockford, Illinois 61125 or to a charity of your choice.
