Maxine "Mickey" (Calkins) Smith

Maxine “Mickey” Calkins Smith, 69, of Rockford, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018. She was born May 9, 1948 in Chetek, Wisconsin to Norman and Norma (McCarty) Calkins. Mickey graduated from Guilford High School and went on to study at the Chicago Medical Institute. She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially painting faces, pans and canvases in acrylics. Mickey also liked to be in the garden with the plants and flowers. She was a member of the Rockford Writers Guild, Rockford Art Guild and a former Board of Directors of Victory Homes Co-op.

Survivors include her daughters, April Briggs (Doug Comstock) and Kelly Smith (Matt Peirce); grandchildren, Taylor Opsahl (Chris Raymer), Jacob Briggs and Jesse Briggs; great-granddaughter due in March, Sophia Rose Natalia Raymer; sister, Sharon (Jim) Dennis; life partner, Larry Foht; special friends, Nancy Parrish and Rosie McInnes; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents and sister, Patricia.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the SM&SF Club, 1010 Sandy Hollow Rd., Rockford, IL 61109 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made to the family.
