MaryLee A. Haag, 84, of Rockford passed away Friday, July 26, 2019. She was born February 6, 1935 in Prentice, Wisconsin to Thomas and Elvira (Alm) Berhow. MaryLee graduated from Prentice High School in 1953. After graduation, she joined the the United States Marine Corps, where she met Jack Brooks. They married in 1954 and had 2 children, Jeffrey and Debra. MaryLee worked as a secretary for a number of years at Kent State in Ohio. Upon returning to Wisconsin, she worked first as a secretary at Packing Corporation of America and then as a salesperson for the same company. In 1978, she married her second husband, James Haag. MaryLee attended the College of Saint Catherine and graduated with a degree in social work and as a certified chemical dependency counselor. After earning her degree, she worked at Hazelden Betty Ford in Minnesota. She also worked for a while as a counselor at a correction facility in Tucson, Arizona, where she and Jim made their home. MaryLee enjoyed her breakfast outings and book club with her Tucson friends.
Survivors include son, Jeff (Sharen) Brooks, Rockton; daughter, Debra (Mark) Harris, Tennessee; stepchildren, Jeff (Tammy) Haag, California, Jackie Twarog, Arizona, Julie Ward, California; 13 grandchildren, Chris (Stacy) Brooks, Wisconsin, Jessica (Wade) Bonnell, Texas, Jennifer Brooks, Wisconsin, Amanda (Shawn) Whalen, Genoa, Kari (Jeremy) Smith, Rockton, Bethany (Pete) Shabatura, Rockton, Jaime Rutherford, Michigan, Charles (Cherie) Betts, Genoa City, Gordon and Sophia Haag, California, Holly, Chelsea, and Jake Twarog, Arizona; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Wausau/Merrill, Wisconsin areas; and many special Tucson friends. Predeceased by husband, James; sisters, Winifred, Mertice, Margaret, Barbara; brothers, Vernon, Franklin; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Dawn.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
