Margie McMillan

Margie Wood McMillan, 71, of Machesney Park passed away on June 12, 2017 in Rockford, IL.  She peacefully joined her father, John Wood;  her mother, Dorothy Lee; and her two sisters; Sharon, and Wanda.

She was born May 1, 1946 in Maxine, Alabama where she grew up, until her family moved to Indiana when she was 8 years old.  She spent many years in Indiana, with her husband, Eugene,  whom she met when she was a teenager. They were married for 53 years, and eventually retired to their summer cottage on the river in Winamac, IN.  She loved her family immensely, and always put her three children, Barbara, Mike, and Pat before anything else.  Her children inspired her to be an outstanding homemaker and cook.

At the age of 60, she moved to Illinois to live with her daughter, Barbara, son-in-law, Eric, and granddaughter, Stephanie.

Margie was a kind, quiet, and sincere soul who put her family first no matter what.  Her grandchildren,Stephanie, Madisyn, Michael, and Zachary, as well as her nephew and niece, Shane and Mikalah, were the lights of her life, and she loved playing games and joking around with them.  Some of her favorite hobbies were playing yahtzee with Stephanie, and laying out in the sun while her family spent time in the pool.

She had an awesome sense of humor, and was always making silly faces and laughing at her own goofy jokes.  Her spirit is perfectly represented by her favorite animal, the hummingbird.

She has left behind many members of her beloved family including her husband, Eugene McMillan; children, Barbara (Eric) Elias, Mike (Jennifer) Writt, Pat Writt (Lisa Angotti); brother, Donald (Ryan) Wood; nephew, Shane (Heidi) Wood; niece, Mikalah; grandchildren: Stephanie Elias, Madisyn Campbell, Michael Writt, Zachary Writt; and great-grandchild, Oliver Bertucci.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 in Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 9770 Keilman Street, St. John, Indiana 46373, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Luncheon at 12:00 p.m. in Michels Sports Eatery, 8209 Wicker Ave., St. John, Indiana 46373.
