Margaret E. Sullivan

Margaret E. Sullivan, 94, of Rockford, IL, died at 5:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.  The former Margaret Valeu was born August 19, 1922 to John and Maggie (Atkinson) Valeu in Burlington, Iowa.  She married Eugene M. Sullivan on June 21, 1941 in Kahokia, MO. Moving to Rockford from Monmouth, IL in the early 50's, Margaret began a career at Sears Roebuck and Company where she ultimately ended up in the Unit Control Department before she retired.  She enjoyed reading, the color red, and sewing; she was an accomplished seamstress. She also had a special place in her heart for Harley. Margaret loved her family fiercely, and liked nothing better than to be surrounded by loved ones, cooking and baking for parties, holidays, and family gatherings. She was a loving, gentle, kind lady of faith that had a heart of gold, and will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her. Although Alzheimers plagued her in her later years, it was never able to rob her of her eternal love for her family and friends, her wonderful sense of humor, or her optimistic nature.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Judy White) Sullivan, Paul Sullivan, Patrick (Johni Sherrell) Sullivan, and Judy (Roger) Schade; one sister, Nancy Holmberg; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren,  2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Eugene; son, Robert Sullivan; parents, John and Maggie Valeu; siblings, Freida Carnes, Beulah Gossett, Fannie Robertson, Pauline Taylor, Mildred Schmidt and Samuel Valeu.

A very special thank you to the staff at Alden Debes; their loving care of Margaret was so appreciated and treasured, as well as the support to the family, especially in the final days. Words cannot express our gratitude.  Also, a special thank you to the team from Heartland Hospice, that were dedicated to providing comfort for Margaret and helping the family along the way as well. 

Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in Honquest Funeral Homes with Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, with visitation from 10:30 until time of service at noon with Pastor Joe Militello officiating. There will be a graveside service following at Willwood Burial Park on West State Street in Rockford.
