Lucille Beth (Peterson) Johnson, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 15. She died peacefully surrounded by the most precious thing in her life, her family. Lucille was born on December 7, 1943 into the family of Eric Gustav and Doris (Lagerstrom) Peterson and sister Louise K. Peterson (Eugene Peterson). Lucille was a graduate of East High School and worked as a dental assistant in the Rockford area until her retirement in February 2018. She was a dedicated and loyal helper to Dr. Nicholas Cary and Dr. Terry Joiner. Lucille faithfully served her Lord at First Free Church, spending her Sunday mornings leading preschoolers in Bible songs or rocking precious babies. She was known as “Lucy” and “Ceil” to many friends and family and she was known as “Mimi” and “Mema” to her grandchildren.
Lucille was blessed with four children: Beth Ann Johnson (Scott Schiermyer); Scott A. Johnson (Marissa); Brad A. Johnson (Heather); and Sheila A. Douglass (Josh). Lucille loved her six beautiful grandchildren: Luke and Matthew Schiermyer (Beth), Olivia Johnson (Scott), Eliana Johnson (Brad) and Lauren and John Douglass (Sheila).
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 19, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, 61111. Funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Thursday, September 20, in First Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Road, Rockford, 61107 with visitation preceding at 12:30pm. There will be a time of coffee and fellowship following the service at 1:30pm in Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Lucy’s name to the Children’s Ministries at First Free Church of Rockford. Private burial in Scottish Argyle Cemetery.
