Lawrence E. Powder

It is with great sadness that the family of Lawrence "Larry" Powder, 75, announce his passing on December 30, 2017.  Larry was born on August 17, 1942 and graduated from East High School in 1960.  Larry was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam; he was awarded the Purple Heart.  He was the business owner of Powder's Automotive.  Larry always had a story of his last adventure, trips to Hawaii with Carol, bragging about his grandchildren, or fishing with Chuck.  Spending time with family was his true joy.  Roll Tide!

Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol (Gerard); son, Michael (Kim) and their children, Kailie and Jordan Powder; daughter, Christine (Bob) Hauge and their children, David (Jane), Melissa (Brant), Katie (Joe), Daniel Close, Robbie (Kristina) and Alyssa Hauge; brother, Charles (Maggie); nephew and niece, David and Kara Powder; many special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Not only an employee, but a second son, Craig Smith and family.  Predeceased by his parents, Irving and Hilda (Petro) Powder; and sister, Mary (Tom) Guyer.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at SMW Local #219, 3316 N. Publisher Drive, Rockford 61109.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
