Kenneth Leroy Gill, 94, of Rockton, IL, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on January 7, 2024. Ken was born on September 2, 1929 in Sanford, NY to William and Anna Josephine Gill. Ken grew up in Burlington, Iowa and after serving in the Korean War he married Mary Ann. They were married for 64 years before she died in 2017. Ken and Mary Ann settled in Crystal Lake, IL to raise their family. He worked for WGN Channel 9 TV Station for 27 years where he was an electrician and camera man. His many duties included working on the Bozo Circus set and operating the camera behind the scenes in the outfield of many Chicago Cubs games.
After he retired from WGN, Ken and Mary Ann spent some time residing in Arizona. They missed their family and ultimately ended up moving to Rockton. In his retirement Ken enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. Ken and Mary Ann enjoyed long walks and biking. They had a tight group of friends from church and they always enjoyed hosting Bible Study at their home. Ken loved the Lord and his family; he was always patient and kind. In his final years he enjoyed listening to old sermons and hymns on the radio. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Ken is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Steven) King, Diane (Mike) Day, Lisa (Russell) Grubbs and Marilee (Ron) Dooman; granddaughters, Michelle (Jeremy) DeAngelis, Melissa (Justin) Abney, Sarah Grubbs, Natalie Grubbs and Kellie Dooman; great-grandchildren, Hailey DeAngelis, Owen DeAngelis, Jocelyn Abney, Rylee Abney and Daniel Abney. Ken is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; son, David; brothers, Earl and William Jr.; sister, Florence; and parents, William and Anna Josephine Gill.
The funeral service was rescheduled due to a snowstorm for Friday, January 19, 2024 at Heritage Baptist Church, 12848 Willowbrook Road, Roscoe, IL 61073. Visitation will be held at 10:00am followed by the funeral at 11:00am with Pastor Micah Potter officiating. Interment in Rockton Township Cemetery.
