Joel David Collinsworth

Joel David Collinsworth, 58, of Rockford, IL passed away unexpectedly on September 25, 2017. He was born on July 2, 1959 to Arnold and Elizabeth (Wall) Collinsworth. He graduated from Rockford University in 2004 with a Bachelor's degree in political science and economics, and always enjoyed lively political discussions with his friends in the Association of Political Minds. He was an entrepreneur and ran many businesses in his lifetime; his most recent and longstanding one being his computer repair business from 2006 to 2017. He had an eclectic set of hobbies including stand up comedy, tinkering with cars and electronics, writing, music, and documentary filmmaking.

In his own words, "I'm grateful for my wife and daughter, and my families: NA, Church, and music. I'm the proudest dad ever."

No matter what life threw at him, he always persevered with great humor and creative strategies, determined to live his best, happiest, and most fulfilling life. 

Joel is survived by his wife, Carla (O'Connor) Collinsworth; his daughter, Amy Collinsworth; his Smith siblings, Lucinda (Cindy), Randall, and Michele; his childhood best friend, Barry Jacobsen; his uncles, Reverend Sherman Wall and Jim Wall; his aunt, Marguerite (Wall) Marco; his wife's loving family; and too many dear friends to name.

He is predeceased by his parents, Arnold Collinsworth and Elizabeth (Wall) Collinsworth; his brothers, Paul Collinsworth, Terence Smith, and Martin Smith; his sister, Tamarah Smith; and Joseph and Patricia Smith.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with Memorial beginning at 3:30 p.m. In Fisher Memorial Chapel at Rockford University, 5050 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61108. Memorial contributions can be made to the family, care of Carla Collinsworth.
