Joanne M. Johnson, 83, of Rockford passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Born February 20, 1935 in Winona, MN to Leland and Clara (Zenke) Eastman. She graduated from Glenbard High School, Glen Ellyn, IL in 1953. In 1956, she graduated from Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. After meeting on a blind date, she married Dean Johnson in December of 1956. Joanne retired in 2000 after a rewarding 44-year career, with the last 20 years employed at PA Peterson Nursing Home. She was an avid reader, enjoyed volunteering, and loved to travel. Joanne was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan since childhood and was thrilled when they won the World Series in 2016. Joanne was devoted to her faith and active in her church.
She will be greatly missed by sons, Keith (Jill), Kevin; grandson, Joshua; sister, Sue (Bob) Paulson; nephews, Brent (Kim), Ryan (Heather); nieces, Kristin, Melissa, Kristen; brother-in-law, Norman (Carol) Aulabaugh; sister-in-law, Sandy Bush; cousin, Marion Hoffman; and many other cousins. Predeceased by parents; and husband. A heartfelt thanks to Pastor Ken Krause of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Serenity Hospice and Presence St. Anne Center.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery, Rockford. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberlain, SD.
