Glenn Carlson, 97, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019. Born in Rockford to Adolph and Amelia Carlson on September 19, 1921. Raised in Chicago. Graduated from Carl Shurg High School in 1939. Veteran of the US Marine Corps serving during WWII in the South Pacific. Received tool and die apprenticeship from Schwin Engineering in California. Also, received Adult Education Certificate and taught machine shop. Employed at Staten Instrument of California for 20 years and Berol Inc. of Rockford for 10 years. Member of City First, Rockford.
Survivors include daughters, Carol (Marc) Gillies, Reno, NV, Betty Westlake, Rockford, IL; blended family, Jo Ellen and John Gianola, Rockford, IL, Barbara Schwindaman of AL, James and Lisa Straug of CO; grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Dustin, Jill, Kelly, Samantha; great grandchildren, Kenneth, Kirstin, Kyle, Katie, Myles; and many cousins; nieces; and nephews. Predeceased by wife, Dixie; granddaughters, Heather Nicely, Amy Straug; and son-in-law, Tom Schwindamin.
