Glenn Carlson, 97, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019. Born in Rockford to Adolph and Amelia Carlson on September 19, 1921. Raised in Chicago. Graduated from Carl Shurg High School in 1939. Veteran of the US Marine Corps serving during WWII in the South Pacific. Received tool and die apprenticeship from Schwin Engineering in California. Also, received Adult Education Certificate and taught machine shop. Employed at Statham Instruments of California for 20 years and Berol Inc. of Rockford for 10 years. Member of City First, Rockford where he worked countless hours doing what he loved most, serving others. He was an encourager, minister for Christ, friend to the outcast and prayer warrior. He lived justly, loved mercy and walked humbly with his Lord.
Survivors include daughters, Carol (Marc) Gillies, Reno, NV, Betty Westlake, Rockford, IL; blended family, Jo Ellen and John Gianola, Rockford, IL, Barbara Schwindaman of AL, James and Lisa Straug of CO; grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Dustin, Jill, Kelly, Samantha; great grandchildren, Kenneth, Kirstin, Kyle, Katie, Myles; and many cousins; nieces; and nephews. Predeceased by wife, Dixie; granddaughters, Heather Nicely, Amy Straug; and son-in-law, Tom Schwindamin.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019 in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 N. Alpine Road, Rockford, with a reception to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 in Arlington Memorial Park.
