Dorothy Lenore Hunter, 87, of Roscoe, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 18, 2018. Born April 23, 1931 to Bertha Lenore Eakin Sturtevant Warner and Elmer Franklin Warner. She attended Roscoe Grade School, followed by Hononegah High School, Blackburn College and finally attaining her M.S. Ed. from Northern Illinois University in 1976. Dorothy was married to Bernard L. Hunter in June of 1953.
Throughout her life Dorothy was known as a creative force. An author, artist, musician, teacher, photographer, sportswoman, historian and woman of faith. She used her creative genius to guide and provide support to all those around her and every life she touched. She was an active member of Roscoe United Methodist Church, singing in the choir for 70+ years and playing in the handbell choir. Dorothy participated for many years as secretary for the Roscoe Improvement Association, until Roscoe was incorporated as a village. Upon retiring from teaching in the Kinnikinnick school district in 1986, she volunteered for the local history committee for North Suburban Library District. Her involvement in the history of Roscoe led to publication of three books and many speaking engagements in the area. Her customized, sometimes satirical plays, skits, stories and poems were the hit of many family, church and local gatherings.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, Lenore and Elmer Warner; and her brother, David Warner. She is survived by her loving husband, Bernard; daughters, Nola (Glenn) Carnine of Roscoe, Doris (Peter) Tropp of Roscoe, Laura Hunter of Rockford; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life and Resurrection at 12:00 p.m. at Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main St., Roscoe.
