Donald L. Watt, 77, died in Rockford on July 13, 2019. A resident since the early 1970s, he retired as an engineer at Ipsen International. He was born May 1, 1942 to Lester and Lorraine Shammo Watt in Laramie, WY.
Don received a B.S. in engineering from Purdue University in 1964 after graduation from Triton Central at Fairland, IN. He took computer classes at Rock Valley College and worked for the Pinkerton Agency in the Quad Cities area before working as an engineer at W. A. Whitney Corp.
An outdoor enthusiast, Don enjoyed bird watching and camping. He was treasurer of the Burpee Museum of National History.
He served as an Army sergeant in Buon Me Thout, Vietnam in 1967, working for the 525th MI group G2 Technical Intelligence Division. In 1968 he was at Bien Hoa Air Base with the 525th at III Corps HQ as an assistant in air operations, receiving the Army commendation medal.
As a youth near London, IN, he was a member of his father’s Boy Scout troop traveling to Philmont Scout Ranch, NM. His troop was honor guard at the Indianapolis Airport when British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan visited.
Survivors include longtime friends, Fred and Kay Alfrey, Rockford; sisters, Barbara W. Foster, West Richland, WA and Jacqueline Christian, Tulsa, OK; and a brother, William Watt, Richland, WA.
