Donald R. Springer

Donald R. Springer, 93, went to join the Lord on Monday, September 19, 2016.  Don, who resided at Fairhaven in Rockford, was born in Princeton, IL on September 29, 1922. He graduated from Bradford High School, attended Illinois State and graduated from the University of Illinois.  He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp.  He taught ag at Ohio, IL and Ashton for three years before farming in the Ashton area until retirement.  Don was an avid horseman, enjoyed golf and was an enthusiastic bridge player.  He was a member of the American Legion and the Gideons and had served on the Ashton School Board for many years. Don had been active in the Ashton and Dixon Methodist Churches and First Free Evangelical Church in Rockford.

Donald was the son of Gilbert J. Springer and Eda (Oswald) Springer of Bradford, IL. He married Janet Borop of Princeton in 1946; she died in 1979.  In 1981 he married Connie James in Dixon, IL; she died in 2010.  

He is survived by brothers, Joe (Blanche) Springer of Danville and John Springer of Princeton; son, Charles (Marilyn) Springer of Winnebago; daughters, Aneda (Larry) Ebert of Ashton and Paula (Rolf) Lichtenberg of Bend, Oregon; stepchildren, Don James of Texas, Gary James of Florida, Susan (Andy) Schumacher of Belvidere and Kevin (Michele) James of New Mexico; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his parents; brother, Roger Springer; wife, Janet; wife, Connie; sister-in-law, Cynthia and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Road, Rockford.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pegasus Special Riders, Oregon, IL or Hope Reigns Ranch of Rockford.
