Dennis Wentz Obituary

Dennis L. Wentz, 71, went to be with his Lord on June 15, 2018, with his sons by his side. He fought hard against a short but devastating battle with cancer.  Born February 8, 1947 in Evanston, IL, the son of Clarence and Alma (Lange) Wentz.  Graduated from Mundelein High School in IL, and then attended Bethel College in St. Paul, MN for one semester. Missed his high school sweetheart, therefore transferring back home to attend Trinity College in Deerfield, IL and marrying her (Kathie Loewecke) on August 20, 1966.

In 1985 he was hired on as one of the first sales reps for Discover Card, where he remained until his retirement in 2009.  Dennis was known for his work ethic, whether it be on the job, in the church, or wherever he was needed.  He could be found in the bleachers or on the sidelines of any and every event in which his children, and later grandchildren participated. He never met a stranger.   Dennis was also known as the go-to guy, by his neighbors, church friends, family and community.  After God and family, he loved the Cubs, Vikings and golf.  He was blessed to have many memorable moments with his 3 grandchildren, who loved him to the moon and back.  Everyone who knew him knew of his sense of humor, which was dry, witty, and mostly "groan-worthy".  And doing the best Donald Duck impersonation ever!

Survived by his wife, Kathie of Rockford; sons, Chris (MeLisa) Wentz of Rockford and Kenton (Amie) Wentz of Menasha, WI; sister, Linda (Gary) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Brock, 15, Bryce, 13, and Julia, 7.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy Wentz and Bobby Wentz; and sons, Kyle Wentz and Kerry Wentz.

Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am on Thursday, June 21, 2018, with the Funeral at 11:00am in Maywood Free Church, 3621 Samuelson Rd., Rockford, 61109.  Burial in Winnebago Cemetery, Winnebago.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Rockford Christian/Brock Wentz Tuition Fund.
