Charles "Mike" Meikel

Charles “Mike” Meikel, 94, died peacefully in Crystal Lake, IL on September 29, 2017. He lived in McHenry County most of his life. He took great pride in his work as a carpenter, as well as maintaining the farm and orchard. Later in life he embraced the hobby of wood turning, creating many beautiful and intricately patterned bowls. Mike served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was stationed in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater as a Gunner's Mate on the USS Gwin. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal.

He is survived by his wife Bev; daughter, Kathy (Doug) Mather; and granddaughter, Kailyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters.

A brief memorial service and gathering of friends will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green St., McHenry, IL 60050 at 3:00pm. Memorial gifts may be made to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lake County Honor Flight Program or Crystal Pines Nursing Home.
