Charlene "Cookie" M. Belken

September 14, 1943 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Charlene "Cookie" M. Belken, 74, of Rockton, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with dementia.  She was born on September 14, 1943 in Chicago, the daughter of George and Ivanelle (Cummins) Cox; married Edward "Ed" Belken on October 24, 1964, and they were blessed with six beautiful daughters.  Cookie was a graduate of Beloit Catholic High School in 1960 and St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1963.  She was employed by Beloit Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse prior to her marriage.  In 2005, she retired from the Talcott Free Library in Rockton after 12 years of being known as "Miss Cookie".  She loved to sew and was an excellent doll maker. She was an extremely dedicated mother and family always came first.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Belken; daughters, Anne (Rick) Keefer, Christine Belken, Teresa Pfaff, Beth (Brian) Murnane, Kelly (Brent) Viergutz and Lisa (Jeff) Peterson; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie (Bobby) Clark, Jordan and Joey Keefer, Amy and Olivia Sherman, Brittany (Brock) Hargraves, Finnegan, Eleanor and Maeve Murnane, Sawyer and Chase Viergutz and Lily Peterson; two great-grandchildren, Jaxson Clark and Canaan Hargraves.  Predeceased by her parents; sister; and grandson, David Pfaff.

A very special thanks to Generations in Byron, IL for their exceptional care of Cookie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00pm on Monday, November 13, in St. Peter Catholic Church, 620 Blackhawk Blvd., South Beloit, IL 61080.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00pm with a Rosary Service at 7:00pm on Sunday, November 12, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe.  Burial in Rockton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the family for a memorial to be determined.
