Alma G. Salzman

Alma G. Salzman, 87, of McHenry, formerly of Woodstock, died peacefully Monday, May 8, 2017 in Alden Terrace Nursing Home, McHenry. Alma was born December 26, 1929 in Nyack, NY to Robert W. and Gladys (Hayden) Gunderson. On October 7, 1950 she married Robert J. Salzman in Yonkers, NY; he predeceased her May 24, 2015.  Alma was a 1951 graduate of The Cochran School of Nursing at St. John’s Hospital, Yonkers, N.Y. She worked in maternity at Woodstock Memorial Hospital for 38 years, retiring in December of 1991. 

Alma is survived by four children, Diane (James) Flanagan of Calera, AL, Robert W. (Michelle) of Woodstock, Carol (Kenneth) Baechler of Belvidere, Linda (Troy) Sieroslawski of Genoa; seven grandchildren, Meghan (Jay) Flanagan Rudd and Kate Flanagan, Tyler Salzman, Gunnar Baechler, Emma and Maxwell Sieroslawski, Cory Rambuski; sisters, Elsa Lucas and Laurel Van Leuven; sister-in-law, Jenny Salzman of Jacksonville, FL; one brother-in-law, James (Ione) Salzman of Bishopville, MD; and many nieces and nephews.  

Visitation is 10:00 to 11:00am followed by the memorial service at 11:00am on Monday, May 15, 2017 in St. Joseph Center of St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave., Woodstock, IL, with Deacon Hans Rokus officiating. Proceed to Calvary Cemetery for the inurnment in the columbarium, and then back to St. Joseph Center for a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, Alma suggested that memorial contributions be given to the American Red Cross.
