William "Mick" A. Finnan

William "Mick" A. Finnan, 83, of Rockford, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 in his home. Mick was born on October 11, 1933 to Matthew and Mildred (Dana) Finnan. Mick graduated from Marengo High School in 1952. Upon graduation he became a member of Plumber and Pipefitters Local 23, eventually becoming a lifelong member. On October 22, 1955 he and Marie Castleman were joined in marriage. They would go on to spend nearly 60 years together as "Mick and Micky." Mick was a three-sport athlete in high school starring in football and baseball. Mick had a strong love for his family and was proud of his Irish heritage. He made numerous lifelong friends through his work and sporting activities. Mick retired from work upon his completion of the Byron Nuclear Power Station in 1990 where he was superintendent of the Auxiliary Building. Mick was able to enjoy a long retirement spending time with family and friends. He liked to golf and bowl and had two 300 games when he was in his 60's. Mick was never too tired to play catch or throw batting practice to his son, Matthew, often to the boy's dismay. He will be sorely missed. 

Survivors include his son, Matthew (Dawn) Finnan; grandchildren, Lawrence, Colin, Isabella and Kaylee; several cherished nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Marie; sons, Thomas and Micheal; brothers, Matthew and Clifford.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park with Pastor Anthony Maynard officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the charity of your choice.
