Stuart Marvin WellerJune 30, 1925 ~ June 6, 2017 (age 91)
Stuart Marvin Weller, 91, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017. He was born on June 30, 1925 to Dorothy Elder and Chester M. Weller in Rockford, IL. Stuart graduated from Rockford West High School and attended the University of Illinois and University of Iowa. He served in the Marine Corp in Japan in World War II.
Stuart spent his career as an independent insurance broker in Rockford. He started out in Rockford working with his Dad and eventually owning the company, The Weller Agency, which he sold to Marsh & McLennan. He continued with them for many years and then worked as a consultant with Amcore Bank, Camlin Insurance Co. and Williams Manny. He retired three years ago.
Service to the Rockford Community was very important to Stuart. He served on the boards of the University Club Scholarship Fund, Keith School, Rockford College (University), Rockford Art Association, and the University Club. He was a long-time member of Rockford Country Club, Rockford Rotary and the University Club of Rockford. He chaired the Fireworks Committee at the Rockford Country Club and became a renowned pyrotechnic expert.
Friends, family and his work were the focus of his life. He loved to travel with friends and family and celebrate milestone events in exciting places like Kenya, Venice and Jackson Hole. The love of his life, Dimmis, was always by his side as they traveled the world and entertained in their beautiful home in Rockford.
Stuart and Dimmis have two children, Dimmis (Greg) Zeigler, of Jackson, WY, David Weller, of Tiverton, Rhode Island; five grandchildren, Jameson Laurens of Brooklyn, NY, Alex Zeigler of Boulder, CO, Wil Zeigler of Jackson, WY, Lindsay Giannini of Newport, RI and William Weller of Tiverton, RI; and three great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents; three sisters; and his wife, Dimmis Lathrop Weller.
Service arrangements will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that gifts be made to the Scholarship Fund of the University Club, the Gordon Eggers Fund of the Natural Land Institute or Rockford University.
