Sharon Bailey-James

Sharon Bailey-James, 49, of Rockford, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016. She was born on February 3, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Robert and Effie (Norton) Bailey Jr. She was baptized and accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age.

Sharon attended Dolittle Elementary School, then attended Phillip’s High School. After high school, Sharon attended Chicago State University from 1985-1988 where she both majored in criminal justice and wedded Joseph James Jr. To this union one child, Jasmine, was born. In 1996 Sharon decided to persue her dream to become a nurse. She enrolled in Kennedy King Colleges License Practice Nursing Program where she later graduated in 1988. After that she decided to further her education in Nursing and enrolled in Richard J. Daley Colleges Register Nursing Program from 1998-2002. After graduation Sharon then moved to Rockford, Illinois to give her daughter a better life. Once moved, Sharon secured a job at Alden Park Strahmoor as a nurse. Sharon was very loving and loved going to church. Although she wasn’t very good at it Sharon loved singing and enjoyed listening to anyone who could hold a note. Sharon was called home to Glory on Thursday, September 8, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Left to cherish her memory is her father, Robert Bailey Jr.; husband, Joseph James Jr.; daughter, Jasmine James; grandsons, Daniel (Brandon) Roman and Marcus Smith; granddaughter, Lola Marie James; brother, Darren Bailey; sisters, Bonita Reed, Brittany Bailey, and Paris (Kenneth) Townsell; sister in law, Helen (Bernard) Franklin; a host of nieces and nephews; uncles, Rev. Larry D. (Rometha) Norton Sr. of Dolthan, AL and Thomas Horsley of Abbeville, AL; aunt, Jolane Norton of Atlanta, GA; lifelong devoted friends, Renee Smith, Serena Burts, Iris Gresham, and Rodney Winfield.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory, Mulford Chapel. A memorial visitation will be held at 4:00 p.m. until time of service.
