Rodney E. Luter

Rodney Eugene Luter passed away July 6, 2017, in Rockford, IL, at age 76 after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born June 30, 1941 in Biggers, Arkansas, the son of the late Lavon and Carrie (Molencupp) Luter.  Rod was a member of the Class of 1959 Harlem High School where he tied the school’s 100-yard dash record finishing in 10.5 seconds. He worked most of his life in construction, primarily as a drywaller/painter in the Rockford area.  He loved to visit with friends and family, telling stories of his childhood and left many lasting memories with all.  Rod was a member of The Verdi Club and a Board Member of the American Lombardi Club in Rockford, IL.  He was a devoted husband, father/step-father, grandfather/step-grandfather, uncle and friend.  His pride and joy was found in his family.

Rod is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Margret (Stotler) Luter; daughters, Melinda (Dennis) Johnson of Machesney Park, IL and Deborah (Greg) Auestad of St. Germaine, WI; son, Russ (Donna) Luter of Chandler, AZ; brothers, Steve (Judy) Luter and Greg (Peggy) Luter of Rockford, IL; nephew, Jason (Jyll) Luter; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; step-children, Barbara (George) Zawislak of Hixson, TN, Katherine (David) Harmon of Rockford, IL, Mary Scott of Buckeye, AZ, Valerie (Ross) Goodman, James (Robin) Scott and Jennie (Tom) Seeling all of Rockford, IL; step-daughter-in-law, Michele Scott; 14 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren; 4 aunts; several brothers and sisters-in-law and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his parents and step-granddaughter, Dixie Margret Rose.

A short visitation will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 17, 2017, at The Lombardi Club, 209 Olive St., Rockford, IL, with a Luncheon and Celebration of Rod’s Life to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make gifts in Rod's memory to the family.
