Patricia "Pat" Grant

Patricia (Pat) Grant, 78, passed away after a battle with cancer on December 5, 2017, surrounded by her family in Machesney Park, IL.

Pat is survived by her husband, Gary Grant of Machesney Park; her sisters, Sharon (Frank) Smith of Pittsfield, IL and Kim (Leslie) Danielson of Loves Park, IL; her daughter, Jandi (Michael) Jenkins of Machesney Park; her son, John Patch of Rockford; daughter, Kelli (Dave) Downs, of Freeport; son, Mark (Kim) Grant, of Rockford; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Amber, Brandon, Christy, Ryan, Taylor, Johnny, Nikki, and Sara; and numerous great-grandchildren; special great-grandchild, Aubrey; special nieces, Diane (Juan) Contreras and Lisa (Ethan) Schumacher; special great-niece, Adree; and special friends, Donna and Larry Friedman, Ray and Maria Leake; and special furry friend, Jayla.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Vera Dodson of Machesney Park; sons, Jeff and Jerry Patch of Machesney Park; and her grandson, Jeffrey of Rockford.

Pat was born on May 9, 1939 in Rockford, IL to parents Angelo and Josephine (Joley) Panozzo. She graduated from West High School in 1957.

Pat was a loving, family-oriented woman who brought light, love, and laughter to all she met. She married Gary Grant in August 14, 1976 and the couple combined their two families to raise seven children together.  They also owned and operated Windsor Mini Mart for many years before selling it in 2002 so they could spend winters in Mesa, Arizona together.

Pat was a social, active, and deeply caring woman who enjoyed being involved in the community, her church, and the local library.  She was also involved in many hobbies, including skating, painting, and crossword puzzles. Her family and friends will always remember her as ‘the matriarch’ of the family, a touchstone which they were all able to lean on for unconditional love and support.

The family would like to thank the staff at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, particularly Dr. Mete Korkmaz, Megan and Andrew for their excellent care.

A visitation is scheduled for 10:00am, Tuesday, December 12, at Riverside Community Church, 6816 North 2nd Street, Machesney Park with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am.  Pastor Bobby Sheets will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pat’s life. 

The family gratefully declines flowers, but prayers, donations to Riverside Community Church, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or The American Cancer Society are gladly accepted.  Please come share memories, stories, and condolences in our guestbook.
