Nels O. Thornbloom, Jr.

Nels O. Thornbloom, Jr., 93, of Rockford passed away Friday, May 5, 2017. Born November 16, 1923 in Rockford to Nels and Lucy (Pangborn) Thornbloom, Sr. Married Audrey Zumhagen September 13, 1945 in Rockford. Retired as an engineer from Barber Coleman after 45 years. A member of the Tebala Shriners, Town and Country, cotillion clubs, and was a Mason. Nels enjoyed dancing, skeet shooting, fishing, tennis, and spending time at the cottage he built.

Survivors include daughters, Lori (Chris) Leeser, Kristi (Paul Rhodes) Thornbloom; grandchildren, Ryan (Jill) Leeser, Taylor Rhodes; sisters, Lu Godfrey, Carole (George) Yard; best friend, Jim (Nancy) Houston; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife, Audrey.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
