Lester “Stub” Popanz, 96, of Roscoe passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Born July 2, 1921 the 6th of 7 children to Elmer W. and Mabelle (Meier) Popanz. Married Mary Lotz of Rockton on Mother’s Day May 8, 1949. To this union was born an only child Gayle. Stub was self-employed as a truck driver, farmer, tax assessor, insurance agent, and custodian at North American Tool. He retired at age 80. A member of Manchester Free Church, Boone County, and Congregational Free Church, Roscoe. Mary and Stub traveled 18 winters to Texas, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Mexico, and Canada. The two of them would take 3-day trips with Ken, Evelyn, and Dick Beecher where Stub would drive. Stub enjoyed coffee with pals at Hononegah Inn, Jessica’s, and McDonald’s.
Survivors include daughter, Gayle Grim; grandchildren, Thomas, James, Daniel; and two great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
