Larry J. Pfaffinger, Sr.

Larry J. Pfaffinger, Sr., 70, of Springdale, Arkansas, formerly of Marengo, IL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and family on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in SwedishAmerican Hospital, Rockford, IL.  Born in Belvidere, IL on September 19, 1945 to Glen and Evelyn (Kunde) Pfaffinger, Larry graduated from Marengo Community High School. He was a paint foreman at Aubrey Manufacturing in Union, IL and retired as an OSHA Inspector after 33 years. He loved his family and was constantly photographing memories of them. He captured his love for nature and animals through his photos.  He was a successful gardener and an avid hunting enthusiast!  We will all miss his strong hugs and playful pranks!

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Rahn Pfaffinger whom he married on January 26, 1990. His sons, Larry (Lisa) Pfaffinger, Jr., Christian (Heather) Hays, Curtis (Stefanie) Hays, and daughters, Janet Watson-Hays, Cyndee (Jim) Shacklee, Brandi Pfaffinger, Julie (Eric) Johnson; 15 grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob, Haley, Wilson, Kayla, Devan, Jewel, Jadyn, Cammie, Brooke, Dane, Kendyl, Claire, Colt and Bren; 3 great-grandchildren, Conner, Elizabeth and Liam. He is also survived by two brothers, Lenny (Janet) Pfaffinger, Richard (Patty) Pfaffinger; several cousins, nieces and nephews; many hunting buddies and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Roger. 

He was an active member at Salem Lutheran Ministries, Springdale, AR and a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Union, IL. 

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, 6821 Main Street, Union, IL 60180, with Pastor Caleb Schauer officiating. The visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Memorial to be held in Arkansas at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the family through St. John's Lutheran Church.
