Joan (Terrell) Hardy

Joan Terrell Hardy, 89, of Rockford, passed away peacefully Friday, November 18, 2016. She was the daughter of late Frank and Lorette Terrell. Born on June 10, 1927, Joan spent her childhood in Kansas City, Missouri growing up side by side with her sister, Jeanette and brother, Frank. Her college years were spent at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. At that time she began dating a young Marine, Roy Hardy. After a short cross country courtship they married. Early in her marriage she patiently waited for Roy to return from Korea, where he served as a Marine lieutenant in the Korean War. Upon his return they raised a family of four children. Joan was a stay at home mom. She dedicated herself to nurturing her children and watched as they spread their wings as young adults. In their retirement years she and Roy traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting and actively supporting Christian missionaries. Their travels took them across Europe, China, Russia, South Africa, and the Holy Lands. Joan spent her lifetime seeking God by investing herself in bible study, worship and prayer. She actively reached out to others to share her Christian faith. Her warm smile and kind heart will be missed by all. 

Survivors include her husband, Roy Hardy; children, Terrell Lucius, Caroline (Jack) Deery, David (Cathy) Hardy and Mark (Laura) Hardy; grandchildren, John (Ashley) Deery, Matt (Abi) Hardy, Nick (Beverly) Hardy, Emily Hardy, Julia Hardy, Sarah Hardy and Sam Hardy; great grandchild, Sawyer Deery.

Memorial service will be at 6:00pm with a visitation from 4:00pm until time of service on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park.  To share a memory or express condolences, visit honquestfh.com.
