Jerry Joe Dodson

Jerry Joe Dodson, 82, of Rockford, IL passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2017.   Born in Seattle, WA on June 13, 1935, Jerry received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in engineering science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  On August 30, 1958, Jerry married Sheila Rosemary Kathleen Shaw in Seattle, WA.  Jerry served as an officer in the United States Navy, stationed in San Diego, CA.  Following his military service, Jerry had a long career in the aerospace industry working for Convair Astronautics in San Diego, CA and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, CT.  In 1974, the family moved to Rockford, IL where Jerry worked for many years at Sundstrand Corporation.

Jerry enjoyed bike riding and completed the Ride-Across-Iowa (RAGBRAI) and the 150 mile, Ride Around Mount Rainier in One Day (RAMROD), both completed when he was in his seventies.  Jerry loved the Lord and went to be with his Savior.  He was a witness to many, including his own family.  Jerry will be remembered for his kindness and personal testimony of God’s saving grace.

Jerry is predeceased by his father and mother, Perry Albert and Mina Lou Dodson.  Jerry is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his five sons, Arthur, Peter (Ricci), Christopher (Maigan), Nicholas (Maureen), and Jason (Debra); and his eight grandchildren, Peter, Stephanie, Jacob, Samantha, Janelle, Anna, Ella, and Henry.

Memorial service will be on Monday, July 24, at 10:00 a.m. in North Love Baptist Church, 5301 East Riverside Blvd., Rockford 61114.
