Eric L. Fornander, Sr.

Eric L. Fornander, Sr., 87, of Machesney Park passed away Friday, June 17, 2016. Born October 3, 1928 in Chicago to Gunnar and Agda (Svensson) Fornander. Veteran of the Korean War serving the US Army, Fifth Army Signal Corp, Sgt. 1st Class. Married Carol Fremming September 1, 1972 in Long Lake. Employed as a Communication Technician at Ft. Sheridan. Member of the VFW Roscoe, American Legion Fox Lake, Korean War Veterans, Free Masons, Rockford Swedish Historical Society, and had been an assistant scout master in Boy Scouts. Also a member of Trinity Evangelical Church in Long Lake for 40 years, First Congregational Community Church, Roscoe, and recently joined Riverside Community Church, Machesney Park. Volunteered at Healing Pathways Center, Rockford. Eric loved line dancing and wood working. He was a very outgoing and passionate man who loved helping others, and proudly raised 8 children.

Survivors include children, Eric (Arlene), Andrea (John), Ernie (Roxanne), Leslie (Jack), Laura (Bill), Carla (Tom), Evette (John), and Erika; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and special companion, Eileen. A special thank you to grandson, Chad; and to Heartland Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in Riverside Community Church, 6816 N. 2nd Street, Machesney Park with Pastor Bobby Sheets officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Heartland Hospice Care, Healing Pathways, The Humane Society of the United States, or to American Cancer Society.
