Edward L. Mecum

Edward L. Mecum,  85, of Rockford passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017. Born September 18, 1932 in Colchester to Thelbert and Lula Belle (Martin) Mecum. Married Shirley Numbers on December 26, 1951; they have been married for 66 years. Owner and operator of Speedway Auto Mall. Edward enjoyed racing cars, and did so until the age of 80.

Survivors include wife, Shirley Mecum; children, Edward (Jill Ballard) Mecum, Jr., Dana (Patti) Mecum, Hubert Baker; grandchildren, Daniel (Carrie), Benjamin (Cindy), Frank (Jennifer), Harry Edward (Violet), Jennifer (Kevin), Dawn, Michael (Jen); great-grandchildren, Gabe, Levi Bruce, Nora June, Tinley Jo, Tevin Stone, Wyatt Edward, Elsie Marie, Charlie James, Caroline Elizabeth, Gavin, Kayleigh, Chloe, Abigail, Michael; brothers, Jim (Marsha) Mecum, Ben (June) Mecum, Roger (Diane) Mecum; sisters, Judy Buchanan, Shirley (Raymond) Hastings; brothers-in-law, George Landon, and Roy Truelson. Predeceased by brother, Frances; sisters, Wilma and Dorothy; parents-in-law, Harry and Winifred Numbers.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory–Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park. Visitation will also be held again from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 in Wise Family–Hoover Hall Funeral Home, 900 N. Main Street, Monmouth, IL 61462, with a service at 11:30 a.m. Burial in Monmouth Cemetery.
