Donald A. Smith

Donald A. Smith, 82, of Poplar Grove, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in his home from Mesothelioma.  Born February 26, 1934 in Chicago, son of Harry and Emily (Kozla) Smith.  Married Barbara A. Caden on September 26, 1954; she predeceased him in 1997.  He was employed as an electrician for the City of Chicago and for the last 19 years lived in Rockford.  Most of all, Don was a magnificent provider and loving father to his family: his wife, five children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and loving companion to Sheila LaFleur for 18 years.

Services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's name to the Gary Sinise Foundation to help soldiers and veterans.  Don's brother served in Korea and his father in WWII.
