Carl Eugene Conklin, 71, of Machesney Park, Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, 1945-2017 died peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Born October 22, 1945 in Rockford, the son of Clarence R. Conklin and Bernardine Semiche. Graduated from Harlem High School in 1965. Served in the US Navy and traveled the world on the USS Roosevelt. Married Cynthia G. Scott on February 26, 1966. Celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year by renewing their vows on the beach in South Padre Island, TX with their 3 daughters. Worked and retired from A&B Freight Lines. Was a life member of the Roscoe VFW, Post 2955 where he served as post commander. Member of American Legion, Rockton. Member of Teamsters. Camped many years on Lake Wisconsin and Lake Koshkonong. Loved fishing, hunting, bowling, archery, boating, NASCAR, and was the founder of the horseshoe league at the VFW. Avid Bear and Cub fan. Loved to play Santa Claus for special friends. Loved to spend time with his grandchildren and taught them lots of life lessons. After retirement, he and Cindy traveled to Texas for the winters where they met many special people. Spent a lot of time on the beach. Carl loved his shrimp bisque soup. Special thanks to his sister Gayle for her humorous wit.

Survivors include wife of 51 years, Cindy; daughters, Carla (Keith) Peterson, Carmen (Dustin) Miles, Cristy (Mike) Rhodes; grandchildren, Jordan (Katie), Lucas (Jessica), Abigayle , Wyatt; great grandson, Brayden; favorite sister, Gayle Dunn; step-father, Fritts (Regina) Blume; step-brothers, Greg, Roger; step-sisters, Deanna, and Linda. Predeceased by parents; father-in-law, Chester Scott; mother-in-law, Myrt Scott.

Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the Roscoe VFW, 11385 2nd Street, Roscoe, with the Color Guard presentation at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family.
