Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother

Barbara A. Lantow, 83, of Roscoe, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 of a sudden illness with family by her side.  Born January 30, 1934 in Rockford, daughter of Harold and Alma (Rockwood) Hicks.  She graduated from Rockford West High School in 1951 and attended Carroll College in Waukesha, WI for two years and joined Alpha Xi Delta Sorority in 1951.  She married David Lantow March 15, 1953 in Waukesha.  They lived in Big Rapids, Michigan for three years while he earned his Pharmacy degree and they returned to Rockford in 1956.  Barbara was a Cub Scout Den Mother for three years and a Girl Scout Assistant and Leader for six years.  She worked with her husband in their pharmacies (Lantow Pharmacy) from 1969-1980.  Afterward she worked at The Atrium Restaurant for 13 years.  She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae in Rockford.  Barbara moved to Myrtle Beach with Melvin Martin in 2008, enjoying life and spending time with new friends that they made together.  She moved back to Roscoe to be with family in 2016. 

Barbara is survived by son, Larry Lantow; daughters, Kathleen (James) Sanders and Marleen (Tom) Murphy; grandchildren, Jonathon and Derrick Lantow, Heather (Richie) Jefts, Rachel (Micah) Gangwer, Tim and Peter Sanders, Jennifer Murphy (Rafael Gilreyes), and Erica Murphy; nine great-grandchildren; one nephew; three nieces.  Predeceased by parents; husband, David (1998); one great-granddaughter; and special friend, Melvin Martin.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory - Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe with Pastor Dan Herman, of Old Stone Church, Rockton officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
