Abbee L. Barker

Abbee Layne Barker, age 26, was raised in the mountains of New Mexico where she felt safe and thrived on the security and beauty that surrounded her. Sadly, Abbee passed away on October 24, 2017.  Abbee was born on July 3, 1991 in Rockford, IL.  She was the precious daughter of Elizabeth (Schmidt) and Leroy Greer of Albuquerque, NM, and Rick and Judy Barker of Machesney Park, IL.  Abbee was a beautiful, fun loving, witty, sensitive woman, who loved to love on people. The diamonds of her life were her nieces, Brooklyn and Haidyn and nephews, Nate, Eli, Paul, Wesley and Braxton. 

Abbee enjoyed creating beauty around her through her coloring and drawings and found peace through these favorite pastimes.  Abbee recently completed her Medical Administrative Assistant Certification and was passionate about working with people suffering with memory loss, Alzheimer’s and dementia.  She loved all music and country music in particular. Abbee spent many hours sharing this love with her sisters and friends, serenading them at every opportunity.  She had a wry, somewhat dark sense of humor and an infectious laugh that could break the tension in any room. As a Harry Potter-head, she would read the books and watch the movies over and over again, eagerly willing to argue about which book was best.  Abbee could be found sporting her fuzzy jammie pants, leggings and Uggs boots year around. 

Abbee’s family is comforted to know that she has joined her family Angels, grandparents, Patricia and Bill Schmidt, Anna Mae (Honey) and Freddie Tafoya; and her cousin, Scott Larson. 

Abbee is survived by her faithful cat Ziggy, who has been adopted by his Cat-Grandparents, Elizabeth and Leroy.  Heartbroken survivors include her sisters, Stephanie (Jeff) Lichtfuss, Jessica (Tyler) Groff, Sarah Greer; and brother, Leroy Jr.  Abbee is also survived by grandparents, Louisa and Victor Gonzales, Barb and Andy Salas; and a huge extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 4:00 pm in Honquest Family Funeral Home-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111 and a Celebration of Life on November 12, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the Carnuel Land Grant (Tijeras Canyon), Carnuel, NM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her honor to the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association (CVSA), P.O.
