Brother and Beloved Friend to All

Rockford - Thomas "Mario" E. Unzicker, Jr., 57, of Rockford passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Born on May 27, 1955, the son of Thomas and Alice (Williams) Unzicker, Sr. Tommy achieved the highest honor in Boy Scouts, that of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Jefferson High School he worked alongside his father at Elco Industries for many years. Most recently, since 2005, Tommy was employed with GCA Service Group which positioned him at Conklin School. He also served as Steward for the SEIU Local 1. He played rugby with the Rockford Ravens and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. It was his love of sports that encouraged him to become a registered umpire for over twenty years with the Northern Illinois Umpire Association and the Suburban Umpire Association. His membership included IHSA, ASA, AFA and USSSA.

Survivors include his sister, April (David) Sundberg; nephews, Matthew (Robyn) Sundberg, Andrew (Amina) Sundberg and Jacob Sundberg; one great-nephew and five great-nieces. Predeceased by his parents and two infant brothers.

Memorial service will be at 3:00pm on Thursday, July 26, 2012 with a visitation from 2:00 until service time in Honquest Family Funeral Home, Rockford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
